METRO COLLABORATION: Business Sector Workshops kicked off at City Hall last week, with a full house of representatives from the Agricultural Sector in attendance on the first day of the workshops. The sector specific workshops are set to continue this week.

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber and member companies have been taking part in Business Sector Workshops, where a Strategic Vision for the city is being thrashed out.

The workshops, hosted by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, are aimed at consulting business sectors on key issues that should influence the long-term strategic vision of the City, to be incorporated into the municipality’s Industrial Development Plan (IDP).

For some time, the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber has been advocating the need to develop an overarching City Vision that goes beyond any one institution or organisation, to encompass the views of the entire community of Nelson Mandela Bay, said Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber CEO Kevin Hustler.

"As a Business Chamber we welcome this spirit of cooperation not only by the local municipality, but also the efforts of the provincial government, who recently hosted a pre-Budget Business Sector engagement in Nelson Mandela Bay with the Premier, various MECs and city councillors," Hustler said.

Hustler said an overarching economic vision for the region was needed to unify the region as a community, "and create an alignment between businesses, as well as local and provincial government. We value these engagements with government and call on all spheres of government to continue to have open, collaborative and transparent engagements with the business sector".
