Continental Tyre intends to continue Corporate Triathlon winning streak

Team Continental Ctc

GOOD NEWS: Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA) is once again fielding a formidable line-up of athletes for the action-packed Corporate Triathlon Challenge taking place in Port Elizabeth on Saturday 1 April 2017.

Continental-backed triathletes have dominated this event for the past two years, taking gold last year in all three categories: the men's and women's races, as well as the team challenge. The intention is to continue this winning streak on the event, which is the precursor to the Standard Bank Ironman African Championships on Sunday 2 April.

"The Corporate Triathlon Challenge is a great showcase for the sporting talent we have in South Africa, and specifically in Port Elizabeth. We are proud to have many of the country's top triathletes competing in Continental colours," says Ryan Visagie, Continental's product communications manager, and the team manager for the event.

Several of Continental's individual and team competitors will be returning to defend or reclaim their titles this year, including Keegan Cooke who won the hotly contested men's individual race in 2016, along with the winner of the women's race in 2015, Liza Kingston.

They will be joined by a brace of highly experienced contenders in national and international sporting competitions, including triathlons, biathlons, full and half Ironman events, as well as long-distance adventure races. The talent list is truly exceptional, including seasoned campaigners Michael Kingston, Lexi Loizou, Derron Thomson, Mariella Dierks, Tracey Campbell and talented national and Eastern Province swimmer, 14-year-old Cullen Biddulph.

A total of eight individual athletes will compete under the Continental banner in the 380 m sea swim, an 18 km cycle and a 4.2 km beachfront run. Additionally, 26 three-person teams will contest the team challenge that covers the three sporting disciplines.

The team's aim of making a clean sweep of the podiums will be aided by the fact that all 26 Continental-backed teams set off in Wave 1, which starts at 07h50 from Hobie Beach, ensuring that they are amongst the front of the pack. A new initiative for 2017 is that all Team Continental participants will be racing with an "Ironman 4 the Kidz" bracelet in support of this worthy charity.
