The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber is looking for a Head of Research: Economist to join our dynamic team.

The ideal candidate needs to have a minimum tertiary qualification of a Masters Degree in Economics with at least 6 years’ experience in data and statistical analysis published in reputable journals. Research knowledge and experience of utmost importance along with knowledge in either advance training in Statistical Analysis System (SAS) / Project Management / Economic Indicators.

The chosen candidate will be guided by the overall trade and investment strategy process. The main purpose is to conduct and oversee the collection and analysis of the relevant cluster-based data. This data is to be used for the compilation of high-quality business intelligence reports in compliance with international research methodology and in-depth analysis.

The research output will be quality-interpreted intelligence to enable an effective cluster-based investment, trade and tourism promotion campaign and development plan. The purpose is also to enable identification of scale-able research studies for the NMB Metro at large, through identifying gaps and opportunities in automotive, water, electricity, tourism, agro-processing, nonautomotive manufacturing, blue oceans, SME and other economies.

This position entails effectively leading and managing the trade intelligence team in its provision of relevant and reliable economic information, as well as establishing a Global Business Intelligence Unit that facilitates access for the NMB Metro business people to national and global business opportunities. The chosen candidate will play a research co-ordinator role within the One-Stop-Shop Trade and Investment Hub within the NMB Metro.
