IRONMAN announces Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa as host for the 2018 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship

IRONMAN, a Wanda Sports Holding company, announced today that the 2018 IRONMAN® 70.3® World Championship has been awarded to Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa. The event will take place on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2, 2018 and is the first time IRONMAN has held a World Championship event in Africa.

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber was privileged to receive a visit from the British High Commissioner to South Africa, Dame Judith Macgregor this morning where selected Business Chamber members were given the opportunity to discuss potential opportunities of synergy between Britain and Nelson Mandela Bay and the implications of the Brexit Referendum on business in South Africa.

Gardener gets boss to aim high

64 year old Port Elizabethan, Clive Taverner has been selected to represent South Africa at the clay target world championships in Ireland from 21st July.

While he has represented the country on three previous occasions, Taverner credits his selection this year in the face of strong competition to "teamwork" from an unlikely source....... his gardener, Bartholomew Edward.

"While I have been retired for 18 months now, I have increased my practice sessions, but this requires someone to accompany me to the range and to operate the target release system. That someone has been Bartholomew.''

Wind project to inject more than R800m into local community – CEO

A little more than a year after connecting to the national energy grid, one of South Africa’s first major wind farms has announced that it is injecting more than R800-million into community economic development projects over the course of its 20-year lifespan.

Kouga Wind Farm, which was one of the successful bidders in the first round of the government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), connected to the national electricity grid in March last year.

The R2-billion development – consisting of 32 turbines each generating up to 2.5 megawatts – produces enough power to supply electricity to approximately 50 000 average South African households annually, mitigating over 270 000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually.

Boardwalk's Emfuleni Resorts and development partner in R1.3-Billion investment proposal

Emfuleni Resorts today outlined its proposal to develop a R1.3-billion mixed use development on currently under-utilised land in the Boardwalk Precinct in Port Elizabeth. The Boardwalk Mall would include a retail mall, a multi-purpose events venue, entertainment offerings and corporate offices. Emfuleni, together with partners Parktown Capital, believe that the current site offers exceptional opportunities for all.

Emfuleni will contribute its land in return for an equity stake. Parktown Capital are leading the development and tenanting, with Sun International ensuring that the mix and design are complementary to its existing business, which should drive footfall and business to the entire precinct. Set on a 13.3 hectare site within The Boardwalk precinct – envisioned in its final form to be a mixed-use lifestyle node situated together with the natural landmark of Hobie Beach – The Boardwalk Mall’s components have been designed to meet the needs of PE’s residents and visitors.
