Zero Waste to Landfill for GMSA's Parts Distribution Centre


General Motors South Africa's (GMSA) Parts Distribution Centre (PDC), situated in the Coega Industrial Development Zone near Port Elizabeth, has recently been declared landfill free.

The 37 000 square metre world class warehouse is the first of GM's global facilities to be recognised with this achievement this year and is the company's 43rd non-manufacturing site to become landfill free. The warehouse accommodates about 144 000 part numbers and dispatches parts and accessories to 113 dealers and 21 parts wholesalers across Southern Africa as well as 34 dealers in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber welcomes Fish Farm decision


THE Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber welcomes Environmental Affairs Minister Edwa Molewa’s announcement to set aside a decision to grant environmental authorization for the development of a proposed fish farm off Hobie Beach.

Along with many other stakeholders in Nelson Mandela Bay, the Business Chamber has taken a strong stance against the fish farm, based on its location and the effect it could have particularly on the beachfront tourism industry.

BEV Mattheus, the task Team Co-ordinator at the Business Chamber,talks to Gary Blom about her greening projects at home. Bev has a worm farm in her garden at home as well as a grey water system in place. She encourages others to start greening projects, saying that it does not require a lot of space nor is it very difficult to maintain. It is all about looking out for the environment, not only about thinking what you will save in your purse.
