The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber was established as the Port Elizabeth Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1994 with a view to fostering, encouraging, promoting, protecting, developing and establishing commercial and industrial enterprises within the Port Elizabeth and Uitenhage Metropole (now Nelson Mandela Bay). These functions had previously been provided by the Port Elizabeth Chamber of Commerce (established in 1864) and the Midland Chamber of Industry (established in 1927). The amalgamation of these two Chambers has significantly strengthened the voice of organised business in the city.
