Lead - Wins

Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber wants to make Nelson Mandela Bay a world-class port, city and investment destination. Through lobbying and advocacy with key stakeholders, retaining and attracting investment and the implementation of the Investors Forum, we have been able to achieve many wins in the pursuit of becoming the leading catalyst for Nelson Mandela Bay to retain and attract business.

Investors Forum Launched

We reimagined our approach to Trade and Investment by launching an Investors Forum, which is focused on the issues that affect the retention of investment in the Metro.

6255 Certificates of Origin Issued

The Chamber issued 6255 certificates of origin between January and June 2023, compared to 5741 issued during the same period last year, with the biggest drivers being the Wool and Mohair, the Perishables and Fruit sectors, including general manufacturers.

High Court Rules in Chamber's Favour to Contain Municipal Tariff Increases Across the Country

We successfully challenged Nersa’s municipal tariff methodology which would have been deployed to determine and approve electricity tariffs to be charged by municipalities for the next two years. The High Court subsequently ruled in our favour and we were able to contain tariff increases to 15.1% for municipalities across the country.

Chamber Part of Revitalisation of the Nelson Mandela Bay Civil Society Coalition

We have formed part of the revitalisation of the Nelson Mandela Bay Civil Society Coalition to take action, as political instability has rendered the Metro incapable of delivering basic services to communities and businesses.

Local Economy Revival Think Tank Established

We have established a Local Economy Revival Think Tank which has 7 workstreams, with a key focus on unlocking the potential of Nelson Mandela Bay to become a diverse manufacturing and Export hub on the African continent.
